CHIRON MUSINGS 8
Human Design talks about the true Self (note uppercase) and the not-self (note lowercase). When you look at your Bodygraph, this is not the true-Self. It is a map to the true-Self by operating correctly, living your design. I liked how Carl Jung used the upper lowercase as differentiation as well. As mentioned, we are consciousness having a brief human experience that exists before and after we die – this is the true-Self. Jung said that consciousness is not produced by the brain, but the brain is produced by consciousness. We think we are bodies with consciousness inside, but we are consciousness temporarily wearing a body. Jung worked with many people who had near death experiences. The consensus was that they felt lighter, a sense of peace, returning home, not going somewhere new. Jung said what if in this life we are not learning but remembering what you have always known? The self, according to Jung, is the ego we hold strongly onto, with attachments, identities and roles that we defend our whole lives and believe that is the true-Self. We often lead with that in conversation as our identity. After saying our name, how often do we lead with the question, or have to answer, what do you do for work? Most of us only realise the Self as we move closer to death as we let go of all those attachments, they dissolve away, as they simply do not matter anymore. Death is not the end but the transition back to our true-Self. We come into this life forgetting, initially influenced by parental and small group conditioning of previous generations teaching their values and traditions. This is why the 13th gate in Human Design, the beginning of the incarnation process, is the building of mind based on the past. See, the ego (self) is a small part of the psyche, not the whole psyche. Since it is believed by most to be the whole psyche, then this is why people hold tightly onto it as their identity and are afraid to lose it. The Self does not wait until you die to reveal itself, it tries to show you your whole life through synchronicities, dreams, symbols. They can stop you in your tracks and make you ask what is happening here? People often ignore, explain away, live on the surface rather than go deeper. You do not have to wait until death to meet the Self, you can become aware now while you have time to live life in that direction. Life is easier when you live as you are, your essence, with less resistance. Keeping up appearances to maintain the stranglehold of the ego is exhausting. When you have struggle, negative emotions, confusion, this is your way of waking up. In Human Design, the G (Geometry) centre is the central yellow diamond and the location of the Self, our true identity. It is what holds our binary consciousness in place (black conscious Personality and red unconscious Design) as we move along our particular trajectory in this life. Without this binary consciousness, we would not exist as a human being. We all know that we have a conscious and subconscious mind and the unconscious body that operates 24/7 without conscious input. The Self I am referring to here is part of that unconscious body being located in the G centre. Whether it is defined or not, you still have a Self. It is just that if it is defined that you have a consistent sense of Self where for the undefined, the inconsistent sense of Self is felt depending on who you meet and where you are. The latter is not a problem, it is allowing you to experience life through another’s love and direction which can still be correct for you. If you follow your strategy and authority, you will be in the right place and meet the right people for you. Across those places a recognisable, consistent expression of you appears.
